Which is better 150 hp engine, inline or v-6?

Trying to decide which one to use. The v-6 is about a 1979 model and the inline is a 1973. Thanks

Both are crankrated
V6 has more displacement 121 cubic inches vs 99.8 for the inline. That there adds up to more torque for better accelleration
V6 also swings a larger dia prop. carries loads better but has more drag than inline

V6 is loop charged, while the inline is Direct Charged( a variation of crosscharging ) with power porting

Both are rated @ 150 so in theory should have the same top speed when run on the same boat. That said, on a small light hull the inline might be faster due to better power to weight ratio and smaller gearcase, while on a big heavy hull the V6 will have the advantage.
The inline is a little cranky in operation, idles very nice, from 2000 - 4000 it is not the smoothest running engine. Once it gets over 4000 it really pulls to 6000rpm.
The V6 will be less erratic in the midrange.

I think the V6 comes with power trim as standsrd

Both are good engines, just slightly different

The V6 XR series (2,4,6) have small diameter lowers like the L6. They really go good unless you get too carried away hopping up the power head and put the pinion out the side.

V6 series, 150 HP is near the low end of the series. L6, 150 is at the top.

V6 has heads, and seperate reeds, etc. It's a lot easier to work on.

I have had both motors and agee with the previous posters. The inline six is quite a bit lighter than the V6. If weight is an issue....
