Which is better new or Remanufactured Carburetor

I think I need a new carb on my 1979 mec 470. I looked at a few different carbs and think I might get a Remanufactured Carburetor. I see the cost saving over a new is really big.
If they are the same the new and remanfactured why would a person pick the new one?

Or they really the same or am I mistaken?

I think a new one is better, however most times the price difference does not justify buying new. If the prices were the same, I would buy new, however new costs significantly more and is not worth it. I would just rebuild it myself, if you can't, just buy a reman. It will be fine.

Last year I replaced the Holley carb on my '76 Sea Ray. After searching around alot I found National Carburator and saved a bunch on a rebuilt, it fit perfect and ran great. Here's a link to the website

National does not have the 2B in stock. They have to rebuild your core.

I dont know where you live but why not get yours rebuilt? There are good carb guys still around you just have to find them. We have one of the best here on Long Island and he rebuilt mine for $125. The carb runs better then new he knows some tricks to make them better. He is a quadra bog specialist but also does all the others. If not a reman is fine as they come with a warranty. Just watch for leaks around the throttle shaft as this is a common problem with cheap rebuilds.

i'm for the rebuilt kit, had all my jet ski's carb's rebuilt and ALL ran much better after being rebuilt

If you are not comfortable rebuilding yourself you can try www.flyingfishcarburetors.com these guys are great. You send it to them, they rebuild it with a 1 year waranty and send it back for a decent fee. Their home page also had a number you can call them with questions.
