I'm replacing this battery. Should I buy a Marine Starting/Deep Cycle, just a Deep Cycle - or an automotive battery?

I have a Suzuki DT100 outboard. Electronics on the boat include a depth finder, VHF radio. - These are used intermittently. The boat is trailered (at least for this year & I'll possible rack it next year) - so there isn't any real requirement for any hard use of a bilge pump.

I have a Perko 8501 battery selector switch. One of my batteries has a dead cell and doesn't hold a charge.

Auto batteries have the wrong kind of terminals. You have so little auxiliary power requirements you would probably do fine with a combo starting/deep cycle. I would avoid just a single starting battery - there will always be some reason why it runs down its charge (boat unattended for long periods) and starting-only batteries lose their longevity if they are discharged.

Go get yourself a dual purpose battery. I don't know if Everstart makes a dual purpose battery. I use Everstart batteries from Wal Mart. I have one starting and two deep cycles. The warranty is good, their batteries won't strain the bank account and there is a Wally World in every city if you ever have to replace it. Don't get an automotive battery. Their not designed to take a beating link marine batteries are.

TakeEm
