I'm in need for a bow mount trolling motor for my 16 ft aluminum Sea Nymph. From the feedbacks I got...it sounds like a 55 lb thrust 12 volt system seems to be the choice for my boat.

I've been looking at the Minnkotas, but can't seem to make up my mind as to which of the three to choose from.

The Terrova, PowerDrive, or All Terrain/Edge.

Which would you choose and why?

motorguide, minnkota doesn't matter, but do yourself a favor and go with wireless controls. i will never go back to a foot control.

Agree with t's dad ... dont matter motor guide vs minn kota both are great motors as long as your not under powered ... personally im staying away from the powerdrive motors because of the slower response ...usually wind up running over what im trying to turn away from. cable drive response is much faster..imho also having had a power drive minn kota previously the easy stow and go or what ever it is , is more of a pain in the butt than the ropes....my 2 cents :)

I prefer MK. Motorguide is made by Brunswick, so you won't find them on any of my boats any time soon, or at least till I lighten up and stop disliking Brunswick with a passion. I dislike the electric steer powerdrive, and Terrova and such, as they just don't have much that is right about them. The stow and deploy is stupid, the steering is slow, and the pedal is annoying. I have an All Terrain and like it. Any of the cable steer All Terrain, Edge, and Maxxum motors are good motors. I don't believe the Edge comes with Maximizer though, and for me, that is a selling point.

I will shortly be installing my third MinnKota PD -- this time on a pontoon. I have no problem with the electric steer and the new deploy lever should take care of the complaints about the earlier system. Even that was not a problem if people knew what the fix was. None of those motors has given me a lick of grief and they are very battery friendly.

MK Riptide with the wireless controls. First it is a "saltwater" motor (tough). The wireless controls are just great. Also you can "set" the motor in the direction you want and it will keep your boat on that "line", no matter the wind or current. It is just a great motor. I will never go back to foot control. I have Motor Guides all my life, and had a lot of trouble. Got this new MK Riptide and I am SOLD. You will be happy with it. You also can get a "plate" that this motor fits on that you can lock and take the motor off the boat in 1 minute. Handy.

Re: Which Minnkota?

I wanted to get the cable motors, because it's cheaper but the problem is that the cord may not be long enough due to the set up of my front boat deck. That's why I'm torn between the Terrova/PD, because it's got a longer cord. I would preferr the Terrova due to the higher amounts of positive feedbacks, but due to my bank account and the time I would like to get the boat out on the water...I may have to settle for the PD. Am I making a mistake by rushing and going with the PD or should I just wait and keep saving till I can afford the Terrova?

Re: Which Minnkota?

I am going through a similiar decision. I need a 55lb 48" wireless bow mount with removable bracket. The MG wireless is leading the MK PD v2 w/copilot, plus removable mount. While MK has a ton of models, they don't have one that will fit the bill. Either have to buy a PD 55-48" and add copilot, or the combined unit w/55" shaft and cut-it down. The camlock MK mount is $130 more.

I'm into my third generation power drive, and the MK Terrova is by far the best. Get the Copilot and you'll really enjoy this motor.
