I need a new fishfinder. I thought this would be easy, NOT! I have a 15ft aluminum Meyers with 18hp tiller evinrude. Nothing fancy by any means. MY current finder is a humminbird wideeye and last year it started making a clicking noise and randomely shutting off on me. Since this finder came with the boat when i bought it last spring i have no history on it and dont know how old it is. But when i could see bottom in 3ft of water and it would jump and say we were in 14 then 27 ft, i knew something was wrong. Anyways, all of my fishing is on small inland lakes. depths reaching 50-60 ft is about the deepest. 3-30 ft more the normal. we fish mostly panfish but occasionally try walleye, catfish, bass, etc. I dont need anything fancy and my budget has me around 300 or less. I cant decide on the DI or regular 2d. the models i was looking at and considering were the lowrance elite 4x, elite 4x dsi, and elite 4. only reason i would like/want the gps of the elite 4 is for marking structure or hotspots in the water, as i researched the software available for these finders and the lakes i fish dont have any extra data so it would be a waste of money for that. but mainly i couldn;t decide between dsi and regular 2d sonar. dsi LOOKS cool but to me doesnt mark fish well. 2d sonar marks fish better but structure is harder to make out. Then i found the humminbird 346c DI and to me this looks to be the best of both worlds, looks like i can have either or in the same unit? So thats where i am at, any hints, suggestions, tips are very welcomed!
