Right now, the future of Johnson and Evinrude is a little unsettled with Bombardier having the division up for sale. Ther's some talk in the industry that the Bombardier family will buy it, but that's as yet unknown. Mercury and Yamaha are both good motors. My preference would be Yamaha, but that's just an opinion. Welcome to the forum. You'll get plenty of opinions on this subject.

Are you going 4 stroke? If so, Honda and Suzuki 90hp are dependable motors according to the people I know who own them. The Honda is not fuel injected and the Suzuki is. Not sure what is a better way to go between the two.

good luck

The future of Johnson and Evinrude is in no danger. Nobody is gonna trash growing, profitable divisions that are increasing market share.

If you want a 90HP DFI engine you can't get one from Yamaha, Mercury, or anyone but Evinrude.

If you want to go with 4 stroke, Johnson and Suzuki offer EFI 90s. I'm not sure about Merc, but the Yamaha and Honda are still carbed.

That ought to get some argument started. :)

JB this is the reason why you have earned your place here no trash at all just truth Evinrude Johnston are the only one of the engine manufactures that have a policy of test until failure then tset again and again and again until all the enginering issues are fully resolved in the field you will all see that with etec totally bullet proof merc has issues with optimax and have a 75 90 and 1215 di soon ther2525 from all my knowledge of evinrude johnston go buy their product not an issue at all
