Which motor? Yamaha 90 or evinrude 90

I have a 2008 south fork 18x60 center console flat boat. I'm looking at 2 motors for it. Looking for which one is more powerful. One is a 2009 brand new in crate Yamaha 90 3 cylinder 2 stroke with 5 year warranty. Or a 2000 Johnson 90 2 stroke 4 cylinder.

90HP is 90HP, but torque happens differently at different rpm.

The Johnny has more cubic inches and should be stronger at low rpm. It is also heavier, which might affect handling.

Though I have been a lifelong OMC user, I would choose the smaller, lighter (and probably less thirsty) Yammy for a flat boat.

Yeah I'm a lifelong OMC fan too but those 90 Yammies are purty bad azz. 50 to 60 lbs lighter than a V4 OMC if memory serves me correctly. I'd go with the Yammer ...

my uninformed assumption is that the 3 cylinder would use less gas than the 4?

However, i bet there's a big price difference in the 2000 used and 2009 new.

$3800 for Johnson 90
$2000 for yamaha 90 plus my 2 2006 25hp efi mercurys paid 800 a piece for them (I'm good friends with the boat dealer he's hooking me up) he has 9 left.

$2000 for a new 90HP Yamaha 2 stroke!....grab it!...I've had that motor since new in 1999 and never a problem! Good Luck!

I would also go with the Yamaha, great running motor, lighter, has a warantee, and uses less fuel.

I think fuel use will be very close a 90 is a 90 and will use about 9 gallons per hour at wot.
The Yammy is 69 cubes 261lbs, The Johnson is 90 cubes and 319.
