which oil is right???

I have a Volvo Penta (1988) 1000 hrs. runs great it is a 4.3 my manual suggests using 20w50 oil the marina says 25w40 is fine in this motor what would you do??Thanks :confused:

25w40 is what is mostly factory recommended, this is what I have used in my Merc 350 mag for about the same amount of hours as your 4.3 v6 and is what Mercury sells, just use a quality oil, if in doubt spend a few extra loonies buy volvo/penta brand.

I was told straight 30 for my motor, but mine is older. The theory behind it is that marine motors are driven harder, so they need more substance to them... Is it true? I have no idea. <br /><br />But, I would stick with what the recommendation is, but it depends on your climate....
