Which oil to use?

I have a 1999 250 HP Mercruiser on my houseboat. I'm located here in Central Texas and the dealer tells me that I can go with something like Castrol 30W oil if I want instead of Quicksilver 25W - 40W.

The Quicksilver is $6.49/Qt at Academy. Seems a little pricy to me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Texasvet

Re: Which oil to use?

What does the factory call for??
Look on the dip stick.
Any 5/30 or 10/30 will work.
Any time it says Mercury/Yamaha/OMC etc.IT's gonna cost way too much!!!
Same oil just a fancy name!!!

If you don't want to use what the manufacturer suggests, then here are a few links to other oil threads to help assist you in choosing your oil.
Here is what Mercruiser recommends. http://www.mercurymarine.com/servic...nd-maintenance/faqs/mercruiser/?category=fuel

They all come down to the same thing, people posting something like
"I use ___(Fill in the blank)___ and it works great"
