Re: Which outboard 4-stroke?Suzuki70 or Yamaha100?
Hi,
If Your boat have these specifications a 70 hp 4-stroke like Suzuki DF70 will be enough in most cases, for sure.
http://www.arimaboats.com/boat7.htm
Length 16' 11" (5.16 m)
Beam 8' (2.44 m)
Height 5' 7" (1.70 m)
Weight 1250 lbs (567 kg)
Max Power 120 hp
Safe Load Cap (6) 1600 lbs (726 kg)
Fuel 27 gal (102 L)

A 100 hp Yamaha 4-stroke (F100) will be fine also but not needed really considering the rather small boat that You have. Nice to have extra hp but not a "must" in Your case (but it depends also how heavy loaded the boat usually are).
The Yamaha F100 4-stroke is slightly more heavy than Suzuki DF70 (370 lb for F100, 335 lb for DF70)
The Suzuki DF70 has the advantage of EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection), the Yamaha F100 has carburators.

If the boat will carry usually "light" load (3-4 people and some cargo) a 70 hp 4-stroke will be just fine but will have to work a little harder than a 100 hp 4-stroke. If You usually are more people in the boat and often heavy loaded I would go for the Yamaha F100 4-stroke.
As for 90 hp 4-strokes, the Suzuki DF 90 is more heavy (416 lb) and I would think more than twice before hanging that weight in such small boat.
The (new) Yamaha F90 4-stroke is the same weight as the F100 4-stroke and has also carburators and it could be an alternative also. Even a Yamaha F75(newer)4-stroke or F80(older) 4-stroke will be fine both regarding force and weight if the boat is not so heavy loaded.
Personally I would probably lean toward the Yamaha F100 just because You have some hp to spare then and You can cruise at lower RPM (and get low sound level than also) and still good fuel consumption but maintain comfortable speed.
