Hey guys. I have an 1987 18' Duracraft aluminum boat with a 70HP Yamaha. Well this past winter someone stole my engine, controls, cables, everything. I have been looking around for the last couple of months and think I've found two decent one and want yall's advice.

The first is a 1999 or 2000 50 HP Johnson without trim that a local dealer has for $1,700. Doesn't come with a prop. Not sure what if anything they've done to it but they say it runs great.

The other is a 1993 Yamaha 55 HP with trim and a prop. The guy has offered to take me out on his boat that still has the engine on it to show me that it works fine. He wants $1,400.

Both come with controls. Assuming they both run fine, any opinions as to what would be better? I have a new baby on the way so price is a big issue.

I just need something to play around on the lake with this summer.

Thanks guys.

Sorry to hear that some criminal decided he had the right to violate your rights.

Both Engines look like a fair deal.

you may not be happy with the drop in hp, with the boat. 50 hp is 70% of the 70 hp.

See the Yama run and go for it if it's good. All things being equal the trim is a big seller.
