I have a '93 115 Mercury 2 cycle, 4 cylinder, and its pretty loud. While at the dock yesterday some guys came up in a boat that looked like a typical wakeboard boat. They came in a little fast and then had to backup abruptly. It was so quiet and smooth through all of that that I assumed it was an inboard. As they went to put it on the trailer and I saw the rest of the boat, it had a Mercury outboard on it and it was so quiet and smooth it really surprised me. What kind of outboard is that quiet? I couldn't even here it running as they were pulling it up to the trailer.

#3 Yamaha/Mercury 4 strokes
#4 Etec rudes, Very close to 4 stroke quiet, ALOT better than old carbed 2 smokes, have a nice "high tech sewing machine" sound at throttle.

The Verados, (Mercury), are usually the quietest in their class by a significant margin.

OK... that makes sense. I was just amazed at the thing appearing to be silent.
