Just wondering if I could get your opinions on which plugs I should get for my Evinrude? The manual calls for QL77JC4, which is a Champion part# I think. My buddy strongly cautions me from putting more Champions in it. I'm thinking of getting some NGKs instead, but would like to hear some other opinions. The engine really starts hard when it's cold, but I haven't replaced the plugs in a few years. I'm sure that just like the 2-stroke oil debate, there is a wide range of opinions even from the experts?

I've always used the Champion QL77JC4's gapped at .030 in my '90 Johnson and havn't had any problem with them. The OMC's from these years all seem to be a little "cold natured' and take a little extra time for a cold start. After that, they just keep on running, though. Just my opinion.

I bet your buddy has a Merc or Yamaha. They are made to run on NGK's. Stick with Champions in an E/J. Thats what they are calibrated for.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, guys! You're right Dhadley, he has one of those old Merc 800s. 800 hp sure seems like overkill for that old Lund Mr. Pike!!!
