So I replaced my engine and had great advice in carb cleaning and driveshaft replacement from my friends here on this forum.

This engine did not have a prop with it and I thought I would be able to use the Tohatsu Prop on it. Silly, it is never that easy is it. Now I need to figure out what prop is best for my needs.
The engine:
75 HP Rude 3 cylinder 1983 PTT

Boat:

AquaSport Fisher 17' Center Console
Average weight of passengers 250 lbs total could be 600 if i bring my father in law and his friend...

Looking for average pleasure boat performance, not worried about getting another 1 mph out of it just looking for the "normal" if there is such a thing prop.

I have not run this engine yet with a prop so I don't know what the rpm would be.

My Tohatsu had a 14" pitch and was a 70hp with PTT the rpm on that was ~5200 WOT. The average speed was about 32 mph and I was happy with that performance.

I don't want to buy three props with different pitches to find the one that works best. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Which Prop 75hp evinrude

I have a 1984 70hp on an Ozark bass boat. It has a Mod V hull and is 17 feet long. With all of my gear and people I am about 1400 to 1600 pounds.
I run 5400 rpm with a 17 pitch prop with cup. Don't get a Mich. Wheel prop, the one I got a year ago was junk.

To my evinrude owner manual the 75 wot is 5200 to 5800 gear ratio is 1.86 to 1 this tells me that a 17 pitch could be to much depending on your boat gear motor fuel batteries ect weight.

I would start at a 17 cupped and go from there.

Of course this is looking at the 1984 book not an 83

If your gear ratio is really 1.86 you need to be careful that you don't over prop it or you will have no hole shot.

Good luck.

I bought an adjustable prop. Hope it isn't junk, I can adjust from 16 to 20, it is a 4 blade composite. I put a tach on the boat as well since the old one was not compatable with the Rude. I am planning on getting out on the water this weekend...if it doesn't start snowing, it is cold today in Connecticut, 45 degrees...middle of May.
