Which prop?

My friend just broke the prop on his 40 hp Johnson. I believe it is an '84 or '86 model. The motor is on a 16' aluminum flat bottom boat with drivers console. He hit a stump and broke one of the blades on the prop. What advice for selecting the right pitch prop for this boat? It is used strictly for fishing. Thanks.

Are there any markings on the broken prop? If it was working OK for him, then a prop with the same pitch would be what to replace it with.<br /><br />Most props are marked somewhere. If it's the original OMC prop, there should be a part number. If not, take the old one with you to the marine shop or OMC dealer. They'll have some good ideas for you.

Any good prop shop can replace that blade.
