Could someone give me a starting point as to what prop to use? I have a 17'6" bass boat with a 115 Mercury (1990) motor on it. All help is appreciated!

Thanks

Re: Which Prop?

The one that will allow your motor to run in the upper end of its recommended wide open throttle operating range.Too little of pitch will cause overrev and too high of pitch will cause lugging of motor.I'm guessing your starting point will be somewhere around a 17" to 19" pitch.Only a water check will confirm final selection.

Extra 260

I have an older Merc (power head rated) 115 on a smaller (16') bass boat. It runs well with a 19" prop.

With your larger boat / slightly stronger engine, I would expect the 19" pitch prop would be a good starting point.

Good Luck, Gold Bear ;)

Thanks for the help! It sounds like the 19 pitch is a good starting point. I will give one a try.

Thanks Again

Re: Which Prop?

If you goto Merc's web site they have a link at the bottom called prop selector, you enter your boats length or weight motor, gear ratio and what you plan to use the boat for and it will give you a starting point. You can also search Merc dealers for one that has demo props, that way you can try a number of different pitchs until you find the right combo of hole shot and top end then you can buy one from them or go somewhere else
