Which Prop?

I have a 1980 Cruisers 23' cuddy with a GM 305 ans an alpha drive. I am having a hard time getting it to trim out at slower speeds. I mainly use this boat for fishing so speed is not a major factor for me. It also doesn't trim out until about 4000 rpm's and then I can back it down but I lose it at about 3200 rpm's.

Thanks

Re: Which Prop?

Tom, Tom, When you say "trim out" do you mean "Plane out"? If so, it is not too unusual for a boat to fall off plane at 3200 RPM, but it should plane at something close to that RPM, say 3500RPM. These RPM nubers are determined by hull design and weight, prop pitch and design and engine power.

Ken will likely recommend a particular brand of SS prop, which will give you the best performance you can get. You will need to post the WOT RPM readings, as well as your prop pitch and make. You will need to choose a prop pitch which allows your motor to turn the max recommended RPM at WOT.

Yes I ment plane out sorry. The wot is 4500 RPM. It is hard to read the prop now, but it looks it mite be a 17P and I think it is a mercruiser.
