Which ratio for new SEI?

Hello all,

I broke my stock MR outdrive at the end of last season. We are going to replace it with an SEi drive from here on Iboats. My question is, which ratio do I need? I have looked all over the old outrive and cannot find any stamped numbers on the drive to indicate what ratio it was originally. It is an '83 Mer. 898/GM305 2bbl. All the research I have done (including looking through the manual) indicates that it was either a 1.50 or 1.6somethinng. Would either one do? SEI offers ratios close to the Merc. ratios, but not identical. Could someone with SEI experience guide me in the right direction? Thanks!

Ayuh,... What Hull do you have this 305 in Tommy,..??

Generally speakin',... If it's 21' or shorter, it's a 1.50:1....
Only in big heavy cruiser type barges use the 1.6somethinng:1s...
Generally speakin'...

As for the Hundredsths differences in the ratios, They're Unimportant,... Match the tenths of the ratio....

An 898 was originally a 1.47 to 1 or 1.49 to 1.. either of those or a 1.50 to one in an SE106 drive should do ya... but double check with SEI to make sure, like the man said above, they're the ones standing behind it...
