Hi, i have a '91 yamaha 9.9 2 stroke outboard and i was wondering if when you lay an outboard on its side if there is a certain side that needs to be toward the ground or a certain side that needs to be pointing up? could someone help me with this? Thanks

On a two stroke it doesn't matter. On a four stroke it does matter because there is oil in the crankcase. Position the engine wrong and oil can run into places it is not supposed to be (and possibly on the floor in the immediate area).

I try to avoid laying it on the shifter lever if it has one on the side.

don't lay it on the shift lever, and don't lay it spark-plugs down for any length of time. Best not to lay it on its front. that leaves one side.
