I have a 1991 Javelin 373 FS (18' fish & Ski) with an evinrude "xp" 150HP outboard. Everything is cool with the boat as far as planing time, max speed, etc. but I have noticed that it porpoises a bit in rough water with 4 people on the boat and the weight a little unblanced, I was hoping maybe this would settle it down just a bit. I was a bit confused as to which would be the right model would I need the mobster model (which says bass boat) or the st1290-80. The motor had a hydrofoil on it when I bought the rig but it would porpoise badly at low speed and handling was extremely twitchy so I chucked it in the garbage and never looked back, the problem I am having was there with or without the hydrofoil.

Re: which smart tabs for my boat?

could there be another reason for my porpoising issue? one of the people weighs in excess of 400lbs so its pretty hard to counteract her, anywhere I put her won't matter cause I dont have enough people to offset her, the boat seats five, driver passenger up front then three in row behind them, i put her in the passenger seat by me and the other two in the back. it gets on plane ok and everything but after about 45mph she starts to porpoise and trim is all the way down still. in opinions on the situation? The boat rides smooth as glass with two or three normal people in it thats why im sure its a weight balance issue when shes in it and thought maybe some tabs would help with her, am I wrong?

Is the pin that the motor rests on when tilted all the way down still installed? If so you could move it in a hole or 2 so you could tilt it down further.

the pin is still installed and it is in the furthest hole down as far as it can go. Also I get some porpoise with just two people if the water is moderately choppy.

Talk with John at Nauticus...see what he thinks, then post back. Based on my experience with my Mobsters on an 18ft Deep-V, I'm almost to the point of needing 80lb actuators and I think he'll say yea, go with the Mobsters....Let us know...we all learn from the post-backs.

I sent an email but got no response and that could be because verizon is knocking em down so I'll try again from my work e-mail account, yea this boat goes pretty fast, well over 55mph so I would imagine I need the mobsters.
