It's that time of year. But I'm having a senior moment...which Quicksilver drive lube is the one that is blue colored? I'm thinking premium not high performance...I'm I right?

Mercruiser High Performance Gear Lube is considered Bluish Green colored.
Cheapest price is typically found at walmart

In a related vein, what would be an equivalent (Amsoil or anything else) to the High Performance Gear Lube? I'm thinking trying something that is less likely to sludge up my gear lube reservoir.

Ayuh,... I've been usin' Mobil 1, 75W-90 since it came out,....

The only difference is it's light amber colored, not dyed,...

I use Amsoil and it doesnt clump up like the Mercruiser stuff. Its actually less expensive as well. Just a bit harder to find as Wally World carries the mercruiser stuff

Just be careful guys. The Merc High Performance stuff is especially designed for use in these drives. It can tolerate significantly higher water loads than the Amsoil. I had a guy running is salt water completely take the lower section of a drive off (exposing gears and bearings), kept using the boat for the rest of the day thinking that as the prop still went round and he couldn't see a problem, then not bring it to us for a week. Using the Merc oil (we'd done the servicing) and not a single spot of rust on any exposed surface. I was shocked, and also a compelte convert to using that oil in drives from that moment forth. Lubrication wise, the Amsoil is probably just as good as the Merc oil, but 'stickiness' to the metal surfaces in salt water exposure, I seriously doubt it.

just my $0.022 (Inc GST)

I agree with Achris here. I believe what you are seeing causing the cluping is evidence of the water inhibitors in the merc marine formula doing its job.

my mercruiser oil clumped in the bottle before use and it clumped in the drive and reservoir over winter without ever being used after I flushed everything out of the reservoir using brake cleaner prior to that and dried it out with compressed air. kind of hard to swallow that one Chris

OK, got my Quicksilver High Performance Gear Lube (the blueish-green stuff) at Wally World for $11.38 a quart. I'm ready!
Oh, but maybe we can get in a few more days on the lake!
The leaves are changing here in northeastern Pennsylvania....nice but that means the end of boating season is near for us. 😭
