Which tach. for '76 35hp Johnson ?

I would like to find out which type of tach.I need to get for a 1976 35hp ....35rl76s.This has since been fitted with electric key start{I guess it was factory fitted }.<br /> The charging system is not working...doesn't bother me,but just in case you needed to know.<br /> I have heard of tiny tachs,but like the idea of an old fashioned needle & redline tach.<br /> Any help muchly appreciated.... :)

Hi again roscoe11. <br />The Tiny Tach works by picking up magnetic field signals from spark current from a wire wrapped around a spark plug lead. The usual "needle and redline :) tachs " will count pulses from magnet passing coils in charging system. The reason your charging system isnt working, probably is the rectifyer that fried as motor was run with battery disconnected. You can buy a cheap rectifier in a radio part store, that will do same job as an expensive OMC spare part, og buy a replacement online, on one of the online stores ( do a search here for Radio Shack ). Try to connect a 12V bulb to the wires and ground and see if your system puts out AC current.

Thanks Dane...<br /> How have you been keeping ?<br /> I have just sent a question to that ebay seller....to see if it will fit mine.It looks the same . Mine has the 5 post connector in front of rectifier,and this one has a plug....but that shouldn't matter ?<br /> Anyway,I'll wait to hear from them.I think I'll look up radio shack as well.<br /> Thanks again for your help...
