I need some advise. i just finished ball honing and installed new piston and rings on my 1983 DT85 2 stroke. Everything else on the motor is within spec according to the service manual. The question is, the service manual say's I can use either a 42c degree thermostat or a 62c degree thermostat. Does it make a difference which thermostat I use. I could use some advice. The motor will be used in fresh and brackish water. Please Help. Thanks in advance...

Re: Which Thermostat

I would see what is available that you can get your hands on.

My Yamaha manual says the stat starts opening about 40 and is fully open at 60.
So your Suzuki may not have options as you think

No problem getting either thermostat, but I did notice after I posted the Service Manual say's the 62c degree is optional. Any idea why???

Re: Which Thermostat

You can use a hotter thermostat in fresh water but need the cooler one in saltwater. Hot would mean more efficient fuel burn.
