Which to buy? 94 Yammie 250 or 96 OMC 225?

I am having trouble deciding on which engine to buy. Both are in good shape and both are for good prices.
1) 94 Yamaha 250
2) 96 Evinrude 225 Ocean Runner

Which engine should I get and why?

id go with the yami they just dont die the ocenrunner is just a mess of problems plus the yamies hold value

I'd go with the yamaha as well. Been the Johnson route and won't go back. Had several yams and love them

if both are 2 stroke, i disagree, i would good Evinrude.

How many hours on each motor? What kind of maintenance has been done on them? What is the compression on each motor? I own one of each, so I am not biased, but the big Yamahas have been pretty much bullit proof.

I recently took a neighbor to look at two identical boats. Both had 150 2 stroke Mercs. No hour meters on these motors, owners claimed each had about 300 hrs. After running each, top speed with same props was off by 7 mph (gps). The slower boat had 125 psi all cyls. The other had 140. That was the motor that actually had 300 hrs! Also, that was the boat he bought.

Update: I took a leap of faith and went with the 94 Yamaha 250. Loose motor, havent heard it run yet. Already fighting a really stiff swivel case. Broke my helm while doing so. Waiting on cables and controls to show up so I can fire her up! Hope all goes well!
