Which Trim Cylinder to Connector Hoses are in the picture? The one on the right is leaking drive oil and is frayed. I find 4 trim hoses for sale for my boat and I'm not sure how I can determine which hose is which. If someone can explain the 2 hoses in the picture (or all 4) it would be greatly appreciated!

The engine is a 1998 Mercruiser 2BBL 5.0L Serial begins with: OLO2....
The outdrive is a Alpha 1 Gen II

I found the following hoses for sale:
Trim Cylinder to Connector (Port Down) Hose 18-2115 31.65 (US)
Trim Cylinder to Connector (Port Up) Hose 18-2116 25.49 (US)
Trim Cylinder to Connector (Starboard Down) Hose 18-2114 31.30 (US)
Trim Cylinder to Connector (Starboard Up) Hose 18-2435 39.22 (US)

See if this picture helps.
Your picture is of the starboard side of the drive/boat.

Those don't look like the proper hoses to me.
What people need to do when looking up aftermarket parts for anything, is to first get the OEM part number, then when you look at the aftermarket parts you can be sure they are a replacement for your part number.

Go to this link to look up OEM part numbers http://www.marinepartsexpress.com/merc_sch_fs.html and be sure you use your outdrive serial number so you know you are in the proper SN range for parts. DO NOT assume the year of your boat is also the same for your engine or drive.

The original part number is what I'm trying to find. The only resource I've found so far is the 'part finder' on wholesalemarine where you key in your boats engine info and it gives you the list of parts that are appropriate. It gives you the original OEM number that is replaces, but that doesn't tell me it's the correct one. I see they're different and don't know where to look next. I was the outdrive and engine are both original to the boat and all 1998. I tried using the link about and went through the directory for 5.0L (2 BBL) GM 305 V-8 1998-2001, but I'm seeing where to go next... not seeing section regarding these hoses. I'm I just not understanding?

I even have Seloc Guide for Mercruiser Stern Drives 1964-91 Repair manual (volume 3200) and still don't see part numbers listed for the hoses.

Go to the link I gave you and scroll down near the bottom to Alpha I Gen II

If you would just post your outdrives serial number, it would make this a lot easier.

Call me stupid, but if you have a 98 drive, why are you looking in a 64-91 manual. It has nothing in it about Gen II drives. and they are service manuals, not parts manuals.
Besides, seloc is a junk aftermarket usless manual.
Here is a link to download the OEM Mercruiser manual.

Still not a parts manual, but it is the best service manual.

I was hoping not to have to make the hour long drive to the boat. I already did it once and got the engine serial number and took the pic of the hoses. I guess I didn't get enough info and I'll have to go back. I've never been asked the outdrive serial number when buying parts before, not even sure I'll be able to read it anywhere...

If you have the engine serial number post it, not just part of it, all of it.

Ok, no need for serial numbers, I did it the hard way. Here are the OEM numbers, and I even put your Sierra numbers in blue by the appropriate hose. The parts breakdown came from Mercs OEM site at http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/us/parts-search.html

You will need the casting numbers off the trim cylinders also.
18-2116 is for both up lines
casting # 14034-1 (oem 32-99902-1) 18-2114, casting # 98704, 98704-1 (oem 32-99902) 18-2136 .these are for stbd side hoses
casting #14035-1 (oem32-99903-1) 18-2115, casting # 98703,98703-1)(oem 32-99903) 18-2137 are port hoses
I believe these are GEN II types for the long lines ,and 18-2116 for both up lines
18-2112 (oem 32-87234)port cylinder ,18-2113 (oem 32-87235) 18-2113

Re: Which Trim Cylinder to Connector Hose is in the picture?

Don, I really appreciate what you did on the diagram! Perfect, Just what I needed. It's very clear to me that I need 2 18-2116's for the up lines. The engine serial is 0L024674, and the outdrive is def Gen II.

I'm now confused on the downlines... from the diagram I see how the lines would be 18-2114 & 18-2115. Then Bt Doctur notes different part numbers for Gen II types???? Also, ALL of the downlines mentioned appear to be blackhoses, while the one on my boat appears to braided. Could this just be changes made over the years or the fact they are after market, and not something to worry about?

I really appreciate the extra help you guys are providing me... I'm almost there!

Re: Which Trim Cylinder to Connector Hose is in the picture?

I wouldn't hold to much stock in going by the pictures alone in a parts diagram from Merc. They are often old pictures used with new numbers.
I have no idea about BT Doc's description. In the oem manuals and parts diagrams, there is no mention of casting numbers. Since I have never seen a casting number on any trim cylinder, I'm not real sure how you determine which casting you have, but I also don't have any trim cylinders in front of me to look at.
All my information came from Mercruiser OEM parts and manuals. Couldn't find any service bulletins on them at all.

Well, I finally did find somthing on those cylinders with the 234 and 235 numbers. They are for trim cylinders for the old MC1 drives from back in the 70's, and have nothing to do with your drive, trim cylinders, or hoses.
