Which Trim Tab Should I Get?

My husband's birthday is coming up and I'm considering purchasing a set of trim tabs for his boat. He has a 23' Sea Pro (235 WA) cuddy with a 250 Merc outboard. We live on the gulf, so we get occasional rough seas during a long day on the water.

I've done some Googling and am seeing a wild range of prices for a variety of different brands. He would likely consult his fishing buddies for recommendations. Do I look for hydraulic or electric or other? I read a lot of cons for electric tabs as being difficult to maintain and/or repair.

I can't really say that "money is no object"...so I'd like to keep them under $500 if possible.

Recommendations, anyone?

Much thanks!

Get him a set of 12" x 12" Bennetts and he will be very happy.

I know, that's not what Bennett recommends for a boat that size but I didn't want to use up the transom space and I have gotten better performance than those using the 18 x 9 tabs.

Oh, and forget the M series tabs. The wings can do funky things to your handling.

I also wanted to know if trim tabs are something you can install yourself or is it something a boat mechanic must do?
