which type of trim fluid to use

mercruiser 228 (305) engine ...just replaced trim unit ...what does it want for fluid ..it an older square style...sticker says sea 5w10 oil ...i've always used dextron III trannie on them ...Ideas?

Ayuh,.... ATF will work Just Fine....

Use whatever's in it. If you're putting in fresh fluid, use whatever you want. Power Steering, ATF, 5w-10... I used power steering fluid in mine, but ATF will be easier to see through the reservoir, to look at the level...

i used 10w-30 for my trim pump, disconnect the lines on the cyldiners and have a buddy with a bucket or something to drain it into, hit the switch and pump it out, also pump out some fresh oil thru lines before refilling just to flush it out
