I have been running premix for the last year in my 91 Evinrude 100 HP VE100SLEIE
At least I know I'm getting oil, but it is a real pain in the butt. I would like to go back to the auto oiling system. I've read about changes and updates to the VRO system since '91.
Not sure which pump I had (if it was original or what).

Does anyone know which pump to buy?
Part number, costs, etc.

thanks

Re: Which VRO pump to buy?

The PN you want is 5004558. The new pumps are different than the originals. They now just pump a 50:1 mix instead of varying the mix with rpm. They are now called OMS pumps.....short for Oil Metering System.

Hope this helps.

0175107 PUMP ASSY., VRO2. This is the part # straight from the BRP website. This is just the vro/fuel pump. If you dont have it youll also have to buy all the hoses and fitting to make it work and also the oil tank.

OBJ, is that the updated pump number? So I know for future reference....

EDIT: Never mind, OBJ, I see that's the superseded number...5004558 is correct, not that I ever doubted it ;) ....

Keep mixing pre mix don't chance it with the pump a 100 hp can't burn that much gas in a day!
Just my 2 cents

Re: Which VRO pump to buy?

thanks for the numbers. I do have the complete system, it's just disconnected. I originally pulled it because I cooked the motor and the dealer would not warranty anything (different story). With premix, at least I didn't have to worry about an oil issue. The original pump says "VRO2" and I would guess that it has never been looked at. Who knows, it might work just fine but I will never know.

OBJ.....you say the new pump meters at 50/1 all the time. That would make it no different than running my premix at 50/1, just without the mess.

And Javelin 353........I know exactly what you're saying. But with built in tanks it's sure nice pulling up to the gas station and just filling up.

Re: Which VRO pump to buy?

That's correct Cortes.....may vary a little at low end but not much. There are kits available for the pumps. Motor end, gas diapharam and housing. If the oil end goes, there's nothing for that. The pumps run around $287. Pricey for not premixing.

What you could do is take the pump to a trusted wrench and have him check it over. There are bench tests' that can be done to see if at least the motor end diaphram and gas pump diaphrams are good.

You posted that the pump was disconnected when the engine got cooked. Did it cook from overheat or because of lack of oil? How many cylinders were bad?

OBJ......blown engine......thing of the past. If you want to read about it, just look up as "Cortes165". You actually made quite a few comments at the time.

Thanks for the info on the pump. I'll keep my eyes open.
