Which way do the seals turn?

The clymer book says they both turn the same way, which is out. I would think they turn the opposite way of each other , in to keep oil in and the other out to keep water out. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Also my carrier is stuck. Is a propane torch hot enough to heat it up to get it to break loose?

Much Thanks

both seals on the prop shaft and drive shaft face out.
most likly propane wont be hot enough.
to remove the spanner nut I usually drill it in 3 places and crack it out.

Re: Which way do the seals turn?

Thank You Sir,
You were right the propane didn't do it. However a bottle of map gas did the job. Reckon I got lucky, the spanner nut came right out. I do have another question or two. When installing the seals should I use any type of sealer on the outer parts of seal. For instance marine rtv, or a removable loctite or bearing lock.
Also, it appears I can pull the shaft right out. Can I do this with out getting my shift or gears out of wack. I just want to access the inner section and clean or scotchbrite the inside of the foot where the big outer seal goes.
Thanks Again
