which way does gimbal bearing seal go

I have a 77 mercury boat 3.0 with r outdrive and I am putting in a new gimbal bearing and seal.Which way does the gimbal bearing seal go.The old one looked like it could go either way.The new one which is glm 85910 I am not sure which way it goes.Some one help me.I cannot find in any of the forum thanks phil
