My gas tank had water in it and I don't know if it came from bad gas or because my side gas tank vent was real loose? I'm looking too find out if the vent holes go up or down? 16' Starcraft (fiberglass) 1975 85hp Johnson V4. If anyone could help I would be must greatful.

whatever's right for your situation..

point it away from rain an/or wake splash..

your vent hose should have a modest loop/slack hose in a loop ..with loop hangin' above the average hose run level as a 'no water to run to tank' break/trap..

smokers

A new way of doing it is to have the vent screens pointed down and toward the stern. Come off the pipe with 1-90 degree fitting to extend upward, go up at least 3" and have another set of 2-90 degrees fittings to bring it down to the tank.

Reasoning is if any water gets into the vent pipe, it can drain back out because of the 3" rise up.
