Ok i got a 88 force 85hp, power trim.on a 89 maxum bowrider. just tired of working on the engine. Looking to replace with a 90hp merc or 90hp evinrude both with power trim. Both in the same price range, im wondering has anyone tried this swap? which would be easier does anything have the same bolt patern as a force? i have a engine hoist on hand. also are any of the power trims inter changeable? thanks.

I don't believe it's going to be much different whichever way you go, you'll have to replace the controls either way. It's my understanding that the bolt pattern is an industry standard, so again no difference. One thing that you might consider is parts availability. I happen to have an OMC (well, now it's BRP) dealer across the street from where I work, so it's super easy for me to get parts for my Johnson engines whenever I don't want to wait around for shipping from online parts houses.

the evinrude is newer and about 200$ less. Think ima go for a water test on it this weekend, cant get my force to run right so might start pulling it today and off it to help pay for the rude. if i can figure the issue out ill prob snag the rude and swap over winter in the garage.
