Blowing the whistle on dishonest or immoral actions is honorable.
As such, it certainly cannot be villified.

HERO!

Re: whistle blowers

They are a HERO if it is in fact true, and the act illegal.
They are a ZERO if they are blowing smoke and causing unnecessary grief for the person falsely accused.

Re: whistle blowers

My ex and her lowlife boyfriend contemplated making thier living by watching the bars at closing time to spot people stumbling to their cars, then calling 911 and collecting the $200 bounties for each drunk driver that got busted. Heroes or Zeroes?

Many cities now have smoking bans in the workplace and, just like back in high school, some tobacco addicts retire to the bathrooms to get their fix on days when it's just too ugly to go outside. Is someone who reports them to the police a Hero or Zero? (Note that I said Police and not Management. )

IMHO, general public and/or children as victims, Hero. Individuals committing minor indiscretions, Zero. (The lowlife boyfriend gets a Zero by default. ;) )

Hero!!!!

Local whistle blower here in CT, lost his job at a nuclear power plant

He investigates safety questions raised by employees. He reported to Dominion that a security fence alarm system was routinely disabled because of repeated false alarms. Within a year, his job was eliminated nine months ago in a reorganization of his department and he was not rehired.

Happy ending for him, settled for an undisclosed amount of money plus hired back. Saw him on the TV a couple night ago with a big smile across his face. Says he is going to buy a boat, a big boat.
Good for him.

Hero. If they get one driver off the road that might go down the road and hit me or one of my family, or you, then it's worth it. They are heros.

Very well put Art.
Most of us want to root for the underdog.. (no pun intended) :)
But to many times I've seen the latter in your post.
