When I changed my lower unit oil it came out a thick white fluid. No water came out. ( I heard some people say they got some water and then fluid ) Put in a glass jar and after 2 days there is still no separation. If water changed the color of the fluid wouldn't it separate from the fluid? Could something else change color of fluid? I think I know the answer just confused that the water hasn't separated from the oil. Looking into pressure testing. Is there a tool for that or do you just rig up some fittings? I used West Marine High Viscosity. Mercury 125 hp year 2002.

You have water intrusion. To properly test it you need to do a pressure and a vacuum test. A common place of intrusion is the seals on the drain and vent plugs. They should be changed each time you change the oil

I change them every year. Last year I went from the mercury Premium oil to West marine high viscosity oil. They didn't stock the other so I switched figuring West marine will be around for a while and I'll jsut use their brand. Could that have something to do with the color. Don't you think after a couple of days the water would have separated from the oil? Thanks for your response.

The marine rated gear lubes have emulsifiers that bond to the water and prevent separation.

Pull your prop and check for monofilament fishing line wrapped around shaft and under bearing lip. The only other 2 places are the drive shaft and shifter shaft seals. It's gotta be fixed! Good Luck!
