While cleaning the carbs on my '86 Evinrude 140 I discovered a small piece of white plastic lodged in one of my high speed jets. I'm hoping that this was the cause of my engine problems of late (going out of town so can't test for a few weeks).

My question is, does anyone have any thoughts on where this piece of plastic might have come from? If something is disintigrating in my fuel system, I like to replace it now instead of waiting for more plastic to clog up my carb jets.

In the course of looking for my engine problem I did already replace the primer bulb and fuel filter. Anything else I should consider?

Thanks to all.

Cheers.

Re: White Plastic Piece in Fuel System?

Fuel filter was my first thought too given that it is made of while plastic. Found the old one in the garbage and gave it the once over. Doesn't appear to be missing any plastic, but I suppose it could be coming from inside the filter.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see if any more pieces show up.

Thanks for the thought Schematic.

Lets hope the ice stays off the Alberta lakes for at least a while longer!!!

Cheers.

It could have came from the VRO pump, which has a white cage around one of the diaphrams. Not sure about this, but worth checking.
