I have a '93 Grady White and the fish box covers are starting to chip. I'm not sure what I need to repair it. Where it's chipped is exposed fiber glass. How would I go about patching the chips and cracks? What is the stuff on top of the fiberglass? It appears to be a thin layer of paint or epoxy. Is this a hard job?

First Boat - The outside surface should be gel coat and is the same stuff as the coating on the hull and other fg glass surfaces. Easy to fix. Get some Marine Tex and a plastic putty knife. Mix per the directions (2 part product) and spread over the chipped area. It takes a while to cure and when cured is like steel so be careful how much you use. Sand smooth and paint if you wish.

Another way is to coat with resin epoxy. Which to use sorta depends on you.

Gradys are as good as you can get.
