Any info on this motor would be appreciated. It says Italia on the plate and it is very small and has a 6 on the outer case. We found it in an old abandoned boat laying on the floor under the front hull. Never heard of this kind before it almost looks like an electric motor but I dont think it is.

How old does it look?...Whitehead is the last name of a famous inventor of airplane motors. You might have a rare piece of junk that is worth some money.

I just picked up a 5 hp Whitehead, previous owner said it was Italian. Cute little 2 stroke gas motor, air cooled. I'd love to find a manual for it. Anyone know anything about these?

I would guess that if you check under the cover and find a spark plug that it is not an electric motor.

whitehead is made by FIAT .It is a 2 stoke engine. The exhaust pipe
is through the propeler. My father had one back in 1980. I still use it as a second motor to my sailing dighny. It burns leaded gas with 4% oil. Greetings from Greece.

Re: WhiteHead outboard motor

Hello,

I am new to the forum and I just bought a 6hp Whitehead longshaft outboard. This is one cool and heavily built outboard. It is in excellent condition but the problem I have is I don't know how to start it? I don't see an electric starter and there is pull cord recoil mechanism. All I see is when i take the cowling off is there are 2 cut out openings on the top of the pulley. I would hope i don't have to try to start it the old fashioned way? HELP
