You may not come up with a pinpoint year merc has always gone by number not year.
Since you have the numbers the year don't really matter(other than just wanting to know)

I have one that is close to the years you have listed can be fun to find some of the parts.

That serial number would make it a 65 or 66 1A EZ drive. the A in the 1A indicates the gear ratio of 1.84:1.
I doubt there is a way to get any closer than that, or if it even matters at that point.
The II drive was never used on the 110 engine.

(181/462) Have no idea what those number stand for.

That's what I was looking for a 1-2 year range thanks where do you get this information? the (181/463) is the serial no on the motor and I assumed the gear ratio would have been the same as the 120/140 at 1.98:1 isn't 1.84:1 what's on the 470?

(181/463) is not a serial number, 2005765 is.

Back in 65 and 66 they used 1.84, not 1.98. Don't forget, Mercruiser didn't even come into existence until 63.

You can find the information in the first couple links here http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=329915

I put the ID and History together from service bulletins, and some Merc training manuals.

The 470's use a 1.84 ratio yes, but those drives will not fit on your transom shield either. With engines and drives that old, drive parts and engine parts are almost non-existent.

Kinda obvious but if I may ask do you know where I can get a manual for this and if it has two separate gear lube compartments or just one I heard the older drives had two separate ones

There is no way of looking up specific serial numbers for engines that old. It fits within the range of your drive. Can't even tell you for sure that it's a 110 except your drive was a 1AEZ, had your drive been a 1BEZ it would have been from a 120hp, a 1CEZ would have been a 6 cyl 140 (yes, 6 cyl).

Re: Who can id my mercruiser

I have another one that looks identical with the boat sunk in the 80s and insurance coverd rebuilding the whole outdrive and motor(I have all the old gears and they still look like new) but its a 120 so according to don s it's a 1BEZ and I was trying to figure if all the parts will interchange I have the full drives both ran prior to being stored many years so the engines are seized I have some newer 2.5l blocks and was figuring on taking them out the boats there in and putting one whole setup in another boat then using the other for parts

will I have problems putting a 1AEZ drive on a 120 hp 2.5l and what's the different between the 120 and the 110 just the carb?

Also I would like a manual for these drives

1AEZ= 1.84, 1BEZ= 2.01, 1CEZ= 1.68 ratio.
You can use the 2.01 ratio with the 110 with no problem. Will probably work better than the 1.84. Swap out the complete drive.
You really can't replace the gears in a drive without all the special tools needed for re-shimming the gears for gear height, and rolling torque. If you try, the drive won't last long, and trust me, the shimming will not be the same between two different housings.
HERE is a link to download the manual.

Re: Who can id my mercruiser

What I'm asking is if I can use this drive on a 120 motor from about 1977 and both drives are good so I was wondering if I could put these drives and transom assembles with newer motors in 80s boats that had Mercrusiers in them

1755211 this is the number on the motor of my other drive unit looking at it I believe it would be the same year range and horsepower but is there a way to tell with only the engine number as I don't have the number off the drive as it was rebuilt so there's no number on the sticker

I was trying to remove the hinge pins they appear to be threaded instead of accepting an Allen wrench like normal anyone know how to remove them
