Just out of curiosity, what is the board, panel, committee or other authority that certifies a Certified Marine Technician? Is there a renewal or continuing ed requirement to stay certified, or is it "once-certified, always certified?"
I belive the most respected certification is from the engine manufacture, this has to be updated on a regular basis. Today there are many other places that will certify a person, most of them involve a fee and some sort of test. I can tell you a couple of things that I have learned in almost 50 yrs in the business one is that we hired many school educated mechanics and out of 10+ never had one that could do the work, most manufactures won't train a mechanic or certify one without a couple of years in the trade and if they don't keep the schooling up by both attending and passing schooling they will lose their certification
