I picked up a ca. 20 foot 1979 cruiscraft (aussie made) boat with a well made, fairly deep v hull that I'd like to set up for fishing the sound and inlets, maybe ocean (close, calm days, etc...). It came with a trailer I bought
for a couple hundred bucks, but when I got it home the hull and transome seem very solid, and other than some easily reparable "boo boos" in the hull, it seems like a very solid boat.
If I keep it, I'll gut the interior, replace / reinforce the stringers, deck, and paint and do simple cosmetic and functional upgrades inside and out, etc...
It has a relatively tiny "cabin" up front that would make for great storage (and already contains a toilette). I also think I've got most of the materials that I would need to do it on hand...
The thing that I'm completely uncertain about the possibility of sealing the cockpit area and adding big enough scuppers in the rear to let the water out if I screwed up and took a good size wave on board. I'm assuming that the deck may need to come up a few inches (it's high already) and that aside from making some space for the fuel tank(s) and some storage, i'll want to fill the below decks with flotation foam.
Thanks in advance for any advice or experience you have to share!
