who is the manufacturer's of my boat

I just bought a 1981 18ft manatee about two weeks ago. who manufactured this boat? is manatee the name of the manufacturer or someone else? i can't seem to find any information on manatee boats on the web. would anyone here know who the manufacturer is?

I just bought a 1968 14ft outboard boat, but the pink slip says that the builder is HMDE. Does anybody know what HMDE stands for?

HMDE is how the state abbreviated the word "home-made".

Apparently, at some point in the ownership trail, no one was able to id the manufacturer, so they listed it as home-made on the title.

It happens a lot with boats built before 1973.
Boats made after 1973 have a maufacturers identification number assigned by the Coast Guard, and engraved into the transom.

When we use the term "outboard" here we are talkiing about engines, not boats.
