Who makes the motor - 1993 Volvo Penta setup...

Man, you guys are getting me fired up about restoring a boat. I have a chance to buy a 1993 Invader, supposedly a 17' with a Volvo Penta sterndrive for a song (project boat). Nada doesn't list a 17 sterndrive, but has a 16 (135 horsepower) and an 18 (seems like 200 hp). I think I've read that the engines in Volvo Penta sterndrives were Volvo until the mid 80's. Who makes the motors now?

What motor is is in the boat you are looking at? HP, number of cyls etc.....

Sorry - looks like my posting was premature.<br /><br />Went and looked at the boat. Probably an '83, mayabe older. Had the inline 4 cylinder volvo engine which I'm fine with (have'em in three of our cars), but the hull design was too aged. Also, the boat was sitting uncovered, in the weather, with the carb off. I would assume that rain down the intake will not do good things over time. Seller said "his girlfriend wrote the ad for the paper, and mistakenly wrote '1993.' Sounded too good to be true and it was.<br /><br />Thanks for the response.
