SO I need some assistance for a few reasons.

1. I wish I never bought a boat I didnt take appart because then I would know how it goes back together.
2. The problem is I have no clue what OMC model I have . The repair manual specifies to repair 400/800 OMC stringer sterndrives. SO which is it and how do I figure out which I have?? Also lets say I wanna just buy a whole another one and say f this garbage hooptie project. Can I go back in with either or do I have to go back with the one that was in it?
3. My engine is a 4cl 150hp based off the title info. Does this info help?

The upper gear case has a serial number thats readable but the model number is not. Is there some other numbers somewhere where I can locate the model I have. Once again its fully mechanical because the two wires hook up to the drive plate thingy.

Sorry for the stupid questions but I am a dood with a min. wage job who bought a boat for 800$ that looks and seems like it has been well main. The uppergear case has all new barings (reason it was taken appart) then the owner saw the Water Pump Drive shaft was damaged on the spline so he didnt fix it and it sat. His excuse was lack of time and money due to loss of job. I guess I felt this excuse as liable because I bought the boat.

Also does anyone have a Water Pump Drive Shaft with a woodriff key sitting around collecting dust? maybe sell to me. or is anyone located near southburbs of chicago? If so let me hire you to do this job and many more. Please advise as I am a newbie who needs help please :)

Being a 4cyl engine, you have a 400 series drive. And forget about taking him to court; you have no case, you bought as is; if it breaks in half, you own both pieces. Buyer Beware!!!!

Galaxy, didn't you already have a thread open about this I responded to? You definitely have a 400 if you have a 4cyl as nutcase said. I've never heard of an OMC 150, I expect you have the 140 like me.

Unfortunately, I've found that trying to fix & keep an old OMC isn't cheap or particularly easy. Parts are getting hard to come by for anything that's not general maintenance because OMC has been out of business for a long time and the Stringer hasn't been built since 1985-1986.

Good luck and there are a few of us Stringer owners who can help, but be prepared for what you have.

Who wants to help me out?

time to start helping yourself.

you have several threads where people have told you it's a 400, showed you pictures, and linked you to the online parts manuals

The problem is I have no clue what OMC model I have .
not a problem at all.
whether it's a 400 or 800 doesn't matter - they use the same water pump shaft, and the procedure to change it is identical

that shaft has to be removed from the boat every 2 or 3 seasons to replace the water pump impeller and grease those splines, so take the manual in one hand and the wrenches in the other and start twisting 'em.
If you're gonna own a boat, you need to know how to maintain it.

those shafts are available everywhere boat parts are sold. No one has them laying around because they all fail like yours did when the water pump impeller maintenance is ignored. Any used ones laying around are junk.

Ok I ordered the water pump shaft off ebay this morning for 64$ plus shipping new. Also mine failed because of bad barings. Yes I do have the manual and will do as it says. This omc manual seems to be easy to read and do. I guess I am more concerned with not sealing it properly and such but I guess I will have to try trial and error. I will try to do this asap when it comes in and keep you posted. Thanks for your reply again god bless.
