Actually there were many many people who didnt want to get rid of Saddam. Saudi liked him cause he was the buffer zone between them and Iran.

Ken

Re: Who would've thought that Saddam could be missed

Don Imus has been saying that for some time.

We should get Saddam a bath, a hair cut, and a new suit, dust him off a bit, tell him we are sorry, and give Iraq back to him.

Now he's being funny, of course, but does anyone doubt that Saddam's methods of keeping the citizens under control are effective? Methods that seem to be unacceptable to the civilized world of today.

You can't be serious?????.......But then again when mass murders and genocide go undocumented and unreported did they really happen? And if no one complains or stands against it, it must be because they accept it.

Hay KG got room for one more, I have my own tackle. :)

When Saddam was in power all we had to do was control Saddam, and although some may doubt it we did a pretty good job of controlling him.

Now no one is in power so who or what we must control is unknown so we must sacrifice our troops daily inorder to direct actions.

GW's daddy said we must leave Saddam in power for stability in the region. Darn kid never listened.

Did you know that we (USA) decided to accept it before we decided not to accept it.
The irony of foreign affairs is surely ironic is'nt it?

I believe it was GW's daddy’s advisors along with pressure from out side, that prolonged Soddamm's fait.

As far as I'm concerned, Saddam WAS the weapon of mass destruction, we stopped him. We didn't have very much control over him when he was in power. He was getting stronger and more determined to disrespect the rules everyday.

I don't think the survivors of his brutality would agree that his method of controlling the masses was a good one.

If we accomplish nothing else, we at least rescued people from this mass murderer.

Re: Who would've thought that Saddam could be missed

I was simply relaying what Don Imus, of Imus in the morning" radio fame, has been saying.

Not suggesting that I subscribe to that notion (Nor even that Imus does really).

I do find it curious that most of Saddam's atrocities were from many years back, and that what he seems to on trial for is an attempted coup plot that he discovered, and allegedy murdered its participants.

What would you have him do? What would we do if a plot to take over our government was discovered?

And make no mistake I am not shedding many tears for Saddam, and he was clearly a bad guy, but LF's contention that he was getting "stronger every day" is not backed up by the evidence, either before or after the invasion.

PW2, You are correct we did have control of him. We let him beat his drum but no WMD found, none there, was he a threat to us, no, did he support terrorist, yes but so does every other arab country against Isreal.

Yep we had him where we wanted him and now we got him, a war in Iraq, Iraq has no government, and OBL is still in the mountains planning the next US attack. We have done real well since 9/11.

I find it amazing that all the bleeding heart liberals want to stand up and fight for everyone's rights, but are more than willing to leave a brutal dictator in charge just cause they dont want our soldiers to die (or do you think there is more to it than that ;) .

Can you say IRONY????

Ken

Re: Who would've thought that Saddam could be missed

ken
there is a lot lot more to it than that.
if we are so altruistic why did we not invade bosnia, sudan, hati, mogadishu and thousands of other brutal dictatorships, suadia araibia is a shining example, around the world.
mostly I think Bush listened to bad advice from his advisors and fired the wrong war planners.

but saddam was under our control even if he did like to rattle sabers.
he had to as Iraqs neighbors are not friendly either.
to show weakness would have invited invasion.
but saddam allowed NO terrorist groups to form in Iraq, pre 03 there had never been a roadside nor suicide bombing in that country since sometime in the 60's and saddam did those with US backing.
saddam took control by force with US backing and understood how it worked.
he would not allow another group to come close to challenging his power base. however he was a tad brutal about it. well maybe incredibly brutal. however that brutality was not a reason for war or we would be at war with 20 other countries.
its all about the oil and the projection of power to control it.
the sauds want us out of saudi, we need a base.
we now have plans for 7 bases in Iraq and 9 in afghanistan, the afghany ones just happen to follow the proposed oil pipeline from the caspian sea area that president bush was planning with uno-cal in the late ninties before he became president, but it is only a coinceidence that the current installed puppet govt in afghanistan is the former president of uno-cal and the pipeline is a go again.

if you care to reaserach it it makes interesting reading.
while your reasearching look up how many other brutal dictators the US installed and supported then later had to take out in the name of oil, coal, copper and lumber in the past 60 years.
most americans dont even know the companies nor the countries exist or ever existed.
I have found most americans cannot/donot read or comphrehend what they read.
thats what the politicians bank on.

What about his constant refusal to respect the no-fly zone for example?
