wht kind of adhesive do i use to put top on hull

i am ready to put the top back on my hull, but before i rivit and bolt it back together do i need to glue it it/siliconeit first?

I used PL premium construction adhesive on mine, its cheap , tough and allows over 30 minutes for positioning.

Do not use silicone ....... it will not last. You can use a PL adhesive or 3m 4200 or 3m 5200. If you EVER anticipate cap removal again go with the 3m 4200 which will permit this. PL and 5200 are permanent

I did not use anything. The OEM did not either. But then I only boat in fresh water. If you go in heavy seas then sealing the joint would be a good idea. It may be enough to simply caulk the seam after you assemble the cap. After you apply a new rubrail and seal it, it should be water tight.

You will not have the time to Caulk and Rivet/bolt your deck in the time frame to make sure this is water tight..

I agree with undercaulking the hull/deck joint with 3m..but Im suggesting 3m 4000 ...

well the top is back on i used pl and 335 rivits. i broke two rivit guns in the process, and my hands are numb...............

Not to rub it in, but if you have a compressor a air rivet gun is the real ticket. I almost recommend renting one to do the job given the number of rivets that have to be set. Sure makes the job easier.

i agree on the air rivit gun i was going to use one but all the rental stores around here didnt have them and i didnt want to wait so i bit the bullet an did it hand held way. ,boy are my hands bruised today

Now caulk the joint before re-installing the rub rail and you're good to go ...

Before if you use caulk that can't be painted, after if you use paintable stuff, doesn't matter if you don't paint under the rub rail ...

My hull (Jetflite) had a thin foam tape with adhesive on one side.I used 3M electrical tape when I put it back together.The joint on mine was screwed together with stainless steel screws into a wood backing strip.Ron G
