Why are aluminum props painted?? Can i remove and polish it??

I was just wondering? I would like to get a stainless in the spring but its my first boat and I just was thinking about it? i have polisher and I was thinking of removing the paint and polishing it. Would this be ok or not such a good idea???

only reason for not doing it that i can think of is the painted prop is less electrically active in the electrolisis soup...your zincs might last a little longer

Run the boat a season. My props are "self-polishing," especially around the tips. :D <br /><br />Beach sand works better than rocks.... :eek:

You can't really polish an aluminum prop. After you remove the paint, it will immediately begin to oxidize. You may need to polish it daily to keep it shiny.

I tried that when I was 12 years old with my dad's 9.9. looked like crap. painted it again.
