Why are these plugs so clean?

I have an 85' 115 inline six. I put new plugs in recently trying to get it to run better. After running about a half tank I remove the plugs to inspect. The top 4 had some browning but the bottom two came out clean.

A little water intrusion will do that. What do the piston tops look like?

Certainly sounds like water in the cyl's. The plugs (and cylinder and piston) are effectively being steam cleaned. That could explain the poor running condition. Do as j_m suggested and inspect the tops of the pistons thru the spark plug holes. If they are shiney and clean then you have water getting in there.

Seeing as it is the bottom two plugs, more likely cause is a bad lower crank seal.

More likely the exhaust plate gasket is leaking cooling water into the exhaust near the lower two exhaust ports, allowing the water to be sucked back into the cyl's as the piston comes down.

Be very careful removing the exhaust covers, those old bolts can have a nasty habit of seizing and breaking off. A small ball peen hammer and give each bolt a dozen light love taps before even attempting to turn the bolt sometimes helps break loose the threads. Careful with the hammer, you do not want to hit it off center or even hard enough to deform the bolt head, you just want to shock the bolt threads to help crack loose the corrosion that locks the threads to the motor block.

Ok, I pulled the plugs and turn over the motor. I am getting no spark on number 5 & 6 plug. What do I need to check?

Ok, I just did some troubleshooting and found 1.5 meg ohms reading on one of the trigger points (the ones leading to # 5 & 6). The other 2 where 1.3k ohms. I guess this means I need a new trigger assembly?
