Re: why didnt they glass the stringers to the trans?

I'm guessing the real reason was probably because the (early) Glastrons were not an upscale boat--I guess about midrange in price. They were known to be light and fast. But, that speed came at a cost: They were also known to have adequate bottoms but light topsides. Thus: it was probably a time and cost saving measure. This MAY also be true for later models. And remember, that brand has been owned by about four different manufacturers since the original manufacturer, (Conroy of Austin or Houston--I think) sold it. When that happens, quality usually does not get better.

While I like the boats and own a couple, I am not impressed by the thickness of the stringers and their attachment to the hull. I am also not impressed with the loose foam blocks stuffed into (only parts of) the hull below the floor. As a matter of fact, on my 15 footer (in the avatar) The foam ribs glassed under the deck printed through with age and there are four bars or ripples of raised fiberglass spanning the deck from side to side.

Because if they had done that, the original owner wouldn't have replaced their boat after only 10 years.

HOOO yea I agree Frank , the three stringer were all all cracked in half where they didnt glass them in and the foam they used was all water loged and floating in two inchs of water ,because they didnt have drainage to the back!!! I am sorry but it is a **** pour job and design, I like the hull but i wouldnt have to done it if it was all inclosed like they advertised in the add!! fully inclose stringers!!! yea right , now dont get me wrong, i love what i am doing to her ,and i know it will be done right this time !!! I am going to be able to save the trans, there is one small spotwhere again they didnt have it glassed in that is starting to rott , So as of today it is nolonger demo time Its rebuild time !!!!!! lol can you smell it ?? yea it spring !!! hahhah yea we have a foot of snow outside Ok thanks fo listening to my rant and rave !!! I cant say that it did hold together till now SgtMj , it is a 1977 t166 glastron , there are a few small stress cracks on the top side but nothing really that bad just all the wood under the deck was rotten, I didnt like the stringer not being glassed to the trans, the hull is in good shape , I dont know is if i good lucky with this one or what ???? I will get her going !!!!! With a lot of work !! lol John
