I use to have a couple of the older models suzi's, the "silver" range and they all use to whistle when you start them early in the morning when it is still cold and then die after the first try .... I know the process why it happens, but was it by accident that they designed it to actually whistle or something that was meant to happen, the newer models still have that mighty "sneeze" but not with the loud whistle from the older models .......

Perhaps the flywheel and a close component create a siren.

If the whistle changes frequency with changes in rpm that's a likely cause.

Re: Why do older suzuki's whistle?

JB ... thanx for the reply, the whistle I am talking about is basically when the suzuki gives that "sneeze" when it is cold and you are trying to start it, the older models will give a loud quick whistle sound with the sneeze compared to the newer 2 stroke models that just gives a loud sneeze without the whistle .... this happens when the engin turns over and the compressed air in the cylender forces out the discharge hole when it does after the first try, they obviously modified the design of the discharge hole or channel to prevent it from making that sound .... I just thought someone might have more info on this ... just curious ....

Forcing air past something that resonates or a small orifice.

It's whistling at that good looking blonde sunbathing. At least if she gets mad you can just say, "Hey, it's my engine!"

Re: Why do older suzuki's whistle?

actually its due to the contained backfire from a lean air/fuel mix burning in the crankcase.
usually can be resolved by using a different starting procedure and readjusting the carbs.
but yes they can make a rather loud squeek when the sneeze and die.
