why is my boat very slow

I have a 1974 50hp envinrude on a 15 foot 830 pound bass boat. It only runs about 15 mph the prop is 13 3/8 17
I have done some work on the motor like clean carbs and replace the plugs and firing system. pleae help

Well first of all you will do better in the Evinrude Johnson section.You should get a service manual too.
But Start off with a compression check Should be about 100 psi and within 10% cylinder to cylinder.
Be sure the plug wires are grounded during the check.
It will run on less but 100 is considered ideal minimum.
Be very careful trouble shooting the ignition.You can damage the system if done incorrectly.
Does the motor seem to start well, idle and seem to run right except for the lack of power?
After running it pull the plugs right away and note their appearance they all should be too hot to handle at frirst.
if any seem cool they may not be firing.Let us know what you find.
